Pro drifting in Finland

Postprzez FPDA » 12 kwi 2008, o 10:41

Hi guys, thought I'd let you know about our new professional drifting series in Finland, the FPDA Drift Series 2008. If anyone wishes to receive more information, please contact us at fpda(a)vastaheitto.com. In most events there is also an amateur level competition, in which welded in roll cages are not mandatory.

What is FPDA?
FPDA stands for Finnish Pro Drifting Association. Founded in the autumn of 2007, it is a 100% democratic organisation formed by Finnish pro level drifters and officials elected by the drivers. The main concern of the association is to provide the possibility for fair competition that would fit the definition of the word “pro”, with the drivers’ interests as the top priority.

In the FPDA each driver member has a vote, and all decisions are based on a democratic voting system. Each driver and official has the right to make initiations, which, if supported, get voted on. To become a rightful driver member, one must prove his abilities as a pro level drift driver. On the first phase members have been selected by previous season’s results. From now on, each driver must perform a 65 point or higher performance in an official qualification judged by FPDA approved judges.

FPDA Drift Series 2008
Despite the tight schedule and unforseen difficulties, the competition schedule for 2008 is now official. The events are very different from each other, and feature 3 different event organizers, in whose events the competitions are held at. This way the level of professionalism in event making is secured, because every event wants to be the best of the season.

1)3.-4.5. Artukainen, Turku. A traditional street course in the third largest city of Finland features the first challenge for competitors. The new layout includes a medium-high speed entry followed by sweeping bends in which drivers must keep the pedal to the metal all the way. Maintaining the correct line and hitting the clipping points will demand serious commitment if one wants to keep the speed and angle appropriate as well. Event organizer: Radalle.com

2)17.5. Botniaring, Jurva. Moving northwards the western coast, the second competition takes place at the Botniaring racetrack. The fast 3rd and 4th gear track features a long, over 180 degrees corner in which the cars will generate huge amounts of tire smoke, which is always a crowd pleaser. The twin battles should see some close door-to-door action as well. Event organizer: Radalle.com

3)7.6. Keminmaa. Because the motorsport enthusiasm isn’t limited to the southern regions only, FPDA takes pro level drifting to a whole new area at the Finnish Lapland’s southwestern corner. 100 km north from Oulu, the location is also close to the Swedish border so drivers and spectators from a very large northern area are expected to join the action at the exciting street course. Event organizer: No Limit Motorclub

4)28.6. Joensuu. The drifters continue to conquest the country at Joensuu, close to the Russian border in the east. A very fast and challenging course is laid out at the roads and yards of a big industrial area. Only the craziest drivers will be able to link the versatile corners. Lots of spectators are expected to come and witness one of the highlights of the whole summer. Event organizer: Oilpoint Joensuu

5)5.-6.7 Motopark, Virtasalmi. One of the fastest racing tracks in Finland with elevation changes and blind corners offers the drivers yet another range of unique challenges to conquer on the road to championship. Nerves start to play a role as well, as the season is coming to it’s semifinal stages. Event organizer: Radalle.com

6)19.-20.7 Alastaro. The exciting season finals take place at the southwestern Alastaro track. The ultra technical layout features entry speeds beyond 160 km/h or 100 mph, and throws a set of very different corners for the driver to link. As the season is coming to it’s end, everyone will have a 110% maximum attack at this competition. Event organizer: Radalle.com

Prizes
FPDA drift series’ winner will get an opportunity for international superstardom. In association with NOPI Drift and Ter-Tech, the main organizing partner of FPDA Radalle.com will provide an official NOPI Drift licence day in Finland. They also pay the winner to the NOPI finals at Atlanta city, Georgia, USA. Once there, the winner will get to use the competitive car and service crew of the Ter-Tech team. At the moment this is a unique opportunity for a European drifter to show his skills in front of the big professional teams. At the NOPI Drift finals the winner will walk away with a whopping $10.000, with the top drivers all the way to 8th place receiving prize money as well. The famous Octane TV crew will also film the whole adventure from the licence day to the Atlanta competition.

The competition entry fees will also be heading back to the drivers, delt proportionally to the points achieved during the season. Therefore it’s fair to say, that in 2008 the drifters finally have their chance to gain proper prizes and recognition for their efforts.
